UPDATE #7 — PASTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE 8.9.26

Church Family,

Our Pastor Search Committee met on Sunday, August 9, immediately following the morning service. We shared a meal together, spent time in prayer, and continued seeking the Lord’s wisdom and discernment as we move forward in this process.

During our meeting, we reviewed last week’s interview with one of our candidates and discussed additional questions we asked him to help us better understand the candidate both personally and pastorally. We also walked through the next steps outlined in our committee checklist as we continue narrowing our focus. These steps include ongoing evaluation, prayerful discussion, and preparing for potential future interactions such as candidate visits.

A significant portion of our time was devoted to prayer—praying for one another, for our families, for the man God is preparing to shepherd The Church at Quail Creek, for his family, and for the church he currently serves. We also prayed for our own church family, asking the Lord to keep us unified, patient, and expectant as we wait on Him.

We want to remind you that this process is intentionally thorough. We are committed to moving at God’s pace, not ours. Please continue to pray with us, trusting that God’s man will come in God’s time. Your patience, encouragement, and prayers mean more than you know.

We will continue seeking the Lord together as we take each step He places before us.

Thank you for standing with us in prayer and faith.

Update #6 — Pastor Search Committee 7.23.26

Dear Quail Creek Family,

Your Pastor Search Committee met on Thursday evening, July 23, and we are grateful to share another update with you. As always, our time together began with prayer—lifting up the candidates, our church family, and our need for God’s wisdom and discernment as we continue this important work. We continue to seek the Lord’s guidance at every step.

Where We Are in the Process

The committee reviewed our current status and discussed the progress made since our last meeting. We spent time walking through updated church information provided by our staff, ensuring that every committee member has a clear and unified understanding of who we are as a church and the ministry context in which our next pastor will serve.

Committee Checklist: Steps 4–9

We reviewed the next steps in our established search process, confirming our progress and identifying what remains ahead. This included discussion of questionnaires, possible interviews, communication with candidates, and preparation for future phases of the search.

Candidate Questionnaires & Next Steps

The committee spent most of the meeting reviewing candidate questionnaires and discussing which candidate or candidates should move forward to the personal interview phase of the process. These questionnaires provided valuable insight into each pastor’s heart, ministry experience, leadership approach, and theological convictions.

We are now moving forward into the interview phase. Therefore, we spent time reviewing possible interview questions and establishing the interview process and will finalize those plans in the days ahead. We will also be sending emails to all candidates that we will not be interviewing at this time.

Each of these steps is being approached with prayer, unity, and careful attention.

Prayer Time

We closed our meeting as always in prayer, lifting up:

  • One another and our families
  • The future pastor and his family
  • The church family he currently serves
  • Our TCQC family during this season of transition

The committee’s ongoing work

We are confident that God is preparing the right man for Quail Creek, and we trust His timing completely.

Thank you for your continued prayers, encouragement, and trust. We are honored to serve you and will keep you updated as the search progresses.

Update #5 — Pastor Search Committee 7.6.26

The Church at Quail Creek

Dear Quail Creek Family,

Your Pastor Search Committee met on Monday evening, July 6, and we are grateful to share another encouraging update with you. As always, our time together began with prayer— lifting up one another, our families, our church, the candidates God has brought into this process, and the future pastor the Lord is preparing for Quail Creek. We remain deeply dependent on God’s wisdom and leadership at every step.

Narrowing to Our Top Candidates

During this meeting, the committee spent significant time reviewing and discussing the candidates who have risen to the top through our initial screening process. We are thankful for the strong interest in the position and for the quality of pastors who have applied. After careful evaluation, we have identified a group of top candidates who best align with the pastoral profile shaped by your survey responses, our church’s needs, and the direction we believe God is leading.

Candidate Questionnaire

To help us get to know these candidates more personally and pastorally, each of them is being asked to complete a questionnaire. This will give us deeper insight into their calling, ministry experience, leadership approach, theological convictions, and heart for shepherding God’s people. Their responses will play an important role as we prepare for the next phase of the search

Transitioning Toward Interviews

As questionnaires are completed and reviewed, the committee will move forward into the interview stage. We are currently finalizing the interview process and questions to ensure we are thorough, consistent, and prayerfully discerning. This next step is an exciting

milestone, and we ask you to join us in praying for clarity and unity as we meet with these candidates.

Closing the Resume Window

The committee has also established the final date for receiving additional résumés. Any candidates who are not selected to move forward will receive a courteous and appreciative communication from our team. We are committed to handling every applicant with respect and gratitude

Continuing in Prayer

We ended our meeting the same way we began—seeking the Lord together. We prayed for:

• Our committee members and their families

• The future pastor and his family

• The church family he currently serves

• Our TCQC family during this season of transition

• God’s guidance and unity as we continue the search

We are confident that God is at work and will provide His man in His timing. Thank you for your continued prayers, encouragement, and trust. We will keep you updated as we move into the interview phase.

Update #3 — Pastor Search Committee 5.18.26

Dear Quail Creek Family,

We are grateful for your continued prayers and encouragement as we seek God's direction in this important season for our church. Your Pastor Search Committee met on Sunday, May 17th, and we are excited to share the following update.

Prayer

As always, our meeting ended in prayer time. We prayed for one another and our families, for our church family during this transition, for the future pastor God is preparing for us and for his family, and for the church family he currently serves. We are grateful to be on this journey with a congregation that is undergirding this process with prayer.

Defining Who We Are Looking For

A significant portion of our time was devoted to reviewing and finalizing the specific qualities and characteristics we are seeking in our next pastor. Using a Venn Diagram approach, we worked through the qualities that are most essential — those that reflect both who Quail Creek is and where God is calling us. This has been a rich and meaningful discussion, and we are grateful for the clarity God is providing.

Resume Review — The Search Is Active!

We are thrilled to report that we have received close to 50 resumes, with more arriving each day! This is an encouraging sign of the interest God is stirring among ministry leaders. Our committee has begun the first round of screening all incoming resumes, carefully evaluating each one against the qualities and characteristics our church family has affirmed. This is careful, prayerful work, and we are committed to giving each resume the thorough attention it deserves.

Next Meeting

Our next team meeting is scheduled for Sunday, June 7th, at which time we will review the results of our initial screening and determine next steps in the process.

How You Can Help

  • Pray — for wisdom, discernment, and unity as we review resumes
  • Pray — for the man God has already chosen for Quail Creek
  • Be patient and trust the process — God's timing is always perfect

We are honored to serve in this capacity and are grateful for the trust you have placed in us. We will continue to keep you informed as the search progresses.

Update #2 — Pastor Search committee 4.26.26

Dear Church at Quail Creek Family,

As promised, the Pastor Search Committee is striving to make sure that we communicate well through this process and to assure you that we are moving forward and seeking God in our search for our next Senior Pastor. Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete our survey and provide your input into the process. The committee has analyzed those surveys, and each member is reading your written comments.

On April 26,2026, we held our latest meeting. All members of the committee were present including Mike Brown, Neil Currie, Cody Jones, Alyssa King, Billy Nichols, Gail Shoemake, Julie Winters and two full participating alternates: Julie Gilbreath, Cliff Jones. Also present was SBTC Representative Dr, Anthony Svajda.

Community Profile: At the meeting, we created a profile of our city and the community surrounding TCQC to share with potential prospects and identify gospel opportunities in the area.

Church Profile: As well we created a profile of the current state of TCQC to help determine necessary skills and characteristics our incoming senior pastor should possess for leading us into the future. From that data and your surveys, we created a Pastor Profile.

We then developed a document for use in posting our Senior Pastor position on available job boards.

Job Posting: The position is now posted on several ministry job boards, and we are receiving resumes. We are asking for Qualified and Called Applicants to: Submit a cover letter, resume/CV, statement of faith, and links to recent sermon recordings.

Prayer: We completed our meeting with a season of prayer.

  • Praying for the committee members and their families.
  • Praying for our New Pastor
  • Praying for our New Pastor’s current Church
  • Praying for our Church Family
  • Praying for the work of the committee

We would appreciate you praying with us for these items each day in your prayer time. We are looking for God’s Man in God’s Timing! We continue to give all Praise and Glory to God for what He is doing. Please pray!

Respectfully submitted by: Mike Brown, Chairman Pastor Search Committee

Update #1: Quail Creek Pastor search committee

Dear Church at Quail Creek Family,

The Pastor Search Committee wanted to take this opportunity to officially “Thank You” for considering us and selecting us to search for our next Senior Pastor. The entire search committee believes that communication is critical during this time, and we want to keep you informed of our progress as we move forward with the process.

On March 15,2026, we were selected via a vote of the church following the morning service.

The search committee includes: Mike Brown, Neil Currie, Cody Jones, Alyssa King,Billy Nichols, Gail Shoemake, Julie Winters and two full participating alternates: Julie Gilbreath, Cliff Jones.

On March 22, 2026, we had an initial training with Shane Kendrix and Anthony Svajda from Southern Baptist of Texas (SBTC) learning the process of pastor search/selection that they recommend.

At the meeting, we elected officers for the committee. Those selected include: Chairman – Mike Brown, Vice-Chairman – Julie Winters, Secretary - Gail Shoemake.

After reviewing the training document with SBTC, we outlined the following next steps that we are working on:

  • Reviewing data to help create a profile of Amarillo and the community surrounding TCQC to share with potential prospects and identify gospel opportunities in the area.
  • Reviewing data and creating a profile of the current state of TCQC to help determine skills and characteristics the next Senior Pastor needs to lead TCQC into the future.
  • Developing surveys to get feedback from the entire church family and staff in reference to qualities and characteristics desired in our new pastor.
  • Praying – one of the most critical components is for the entire church congregation to be in constant prayer for our church, our church staff, the search committee, God’s man to lead our church, and that man’s family.

The committee plans to provide updates to the church family on a regular basis. (at least once a month). Have a great day and let’s pray that God will show us the man that He is preparing to lead us into the future for the glory of God!
